First year anniversary celebrates Egelsbach airport as an Increasingly important economic provider for the region

HFG and NetJets Europe draws a positive balance one year after the takeover of the airport Frankfurt-Egelsbach. In March 2009, NetJets Europe purchased 80 per cent of the shares of Egelsbach airport, the remaining 20 per cent belong to the communities Egelsbach (eleven per cent) and Langen (nine per cent). The airport is essential for business aviation in Germany and Europe and is run by the Hessische Flugplatz GmbH (HFG). “Egelsbach is an important economical factor for the Rhine-Main region. Due to the long-term investment strategy of NetJets Europe, the airfield will continue developing into a modern airport for general and business aviation”, says Mark Wilson, member of the management team at Egelsbach and Chief Operating Officer NetJets Europe. “In the next five years we expect to invest 20 to 30 million Euros in Egelsbach.”

Status quos

Now that the reparation of the apron is finished, NetJets Europe and HFG plan further steps, among them the installation of an instrument landing system and the required extension of the runway to enable safer and quieter flight operations. Currently, the management team of the airport is conducting the necessary research to ensure the project is implemented in the best manner.

Last year NetJets Europe has implemented Quieter Airport Policy. Two additional noise monitoring stations are being installed and a fee scale based on noise classification was introduced that benefits quieter aircraft. Moreover, together with German air traffic control and FRAPORT AG, NetJets developed steeper and therefore quieter approach procedures. In addition to these measures, Nina Lamprecht has been appointed as Community liaison officer in June 2009.

On-going support of the community

The airport is a home to 25 companies, such as maintenance companies (MRO), flight schools, Police Helicopter base, charter companies for planes and helicopters, suppliers, high-quality hospitality businesses as well as other service providers. In addition five aviation associations steeped in tradition are located at Frankfurt-Egelsbach Airport. It represents about 700 jobs at Egelsbach Airport.

“The airport is strongly involved in supporting the community. In 2009, HFG supported the many community projects including the (NAME) swimming pool, the fire department, several clubs, Kindergarten, Dance Event-Egelsbach and the annual Carnival festival and intend to continue to do so in the future.” says Siegmar Weegen, Managing Director of Egelsbach Airport.
